The Friday Five

The above is a picture of the only remaining Civil War recruiting station west of the Mississippi. It's located in Wasioja, MN. This weekend there is a big Civil War re-enactment in Wasioja that I'm looking forward too.

So, this week's Friday Five is five things I hope to take in at the Wasioja Civil War Days:

1. The History of High Tea demonstration.

2. President Lincoln's address.

3. Medical Demonstration.

4. The Battle of Antietam.

5. The Battle of Mill Springs.

Have you ever been to a Civil War demonstration?

What are your weekend plans?

  1. Pardon my ignorance, but I didn't think the Civil War swept up into MN!! Maybe a recruitment station gathered good Minnisotans and sent them south? Makes sense to me, but then I'm so easily confused, LOL!

    Have fun, Erica!!

The "Wasioja Recruiting Station" is an historical fraud created by Robert C. Emery along with the Wasioja Civil War fantasy of 60 boys of Wasioja cut down at Chickamauga. Dodge County's real Second Regiment recruits consisted of 53 "Dodge County Volunteers" from 6 townships organized and recruited at the Masonic Hall in Mantorville. No Wasioja resident or student is known to have died in Company C.

  3. My town hosts Civil War reenactments from time to time. Drive through town you'll see signs with arrows: NORTH and SOUTH pointing to the bivouac sites. Too fun.

This weekend is a big weekend for Himself. On Father's Day, he will test for his 4th degree black belt. Sunday night, if Himself survived the test and isn't wiped out, we'll attend the Black Belt Dinner
