The Friday Five

Snow Storm, Dec. 2008

In honor of this week's First Day of Spring, I thought it would be a good week for this particular Friday Five:

Five Signs it is Spring in Minnesota.

1. The largest freshwater ship on the great lakes, the Mesabi Miner, gets stuck in the ice in Duluth Harbor and has to go back to the dock.

2. We've only had to leave the bathroom cupboard door open two nights this week to ensure the water pipes didn't freeze.

3. The best people can say about the many inches of snow we have here is, "At least it isn't mud."

4. I had to wear my gloves out to the mailbox to avoid frostbite, only to find it stuffed with seed and flower catalogs.

5. We can't decide if having snow for Easter Sunday means the Easter eggs will be horrible hard to find (buried in the snow) or ridiculously easy (sitting atop the ice.)

What's the spring weather like in your neck of the woods?

  1. I'll trade you some of our wonderful spring weather for some of your winter weather. We could use a lot more snow in the Sierras. The peaks are looking pathetic after our third driest January and February on record.

  2. I've got to laugh about trudging through the snow to get to the mailbox only to find it stuffed with spring seed catalogues. That's an unfair teaser.

It's been sooooo dry out here in Colorado. We're already getting water shortage notices like "keep your drinking water in the refrigerator so you don't have to let it run from the faucet to get to cold." Now that's spooky stuff to hear...

Embrace your snow and send some our way, Erica!!!

  3. Right now it's 32 one day and then 72 another. Today: rainy and 45. Blech!

  4. Spring weather here looks like mid-January weather. Worcester, MA has also set the record in the country! for the most snow this season. This winter has been the 5th snowiest on record since the 1880s when weather dudes started collecting data.
